The City of La Mesa is taking steps to increase environmental awareness within the community and to sustain our environment. This commitment includes:

- Annual "Sustain La Mesa" Environmental Festival
- "Our Planet, Our Home” Environmental Literacy & Art Contest
"Sustain La Mesa" Environmental Festival - Bringing Green to the Table
The Environmental Sustainability Commission presents the 2013 "Sustain La Mesa" Environmental Festival and "Our Planet, Our Home" K-12 Environmental Literacy & Art Contest on Saturday, September 7th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at
Harry Griffen Park. The festival features:
- Booths and exhibits for all ages
- Monarch butterfly release at festival finale
- Splash Science Mobile Lab
- Ms. Smarty Plants
- EDCO Recycling Zone
- Expert speakers all day
