Yvonne Garrett is the City Manager for the City of La Mesa. Mrs. Garrett previously held a dual role as both the Assistant City Manager/Director of Community Services and Director of the La Mesa Park and Recreation Foundation, a private non-profit organization that raises funds for park improvements and facilitates recreational education and cultural programs in La Mesa.
In her capacity as Assistant City Manager/Director of Community Services, she handled special projects for the City, most notably among many projects were the development of a health and wellness initiative for the General Plan and completion the Parks Master Plan. She provided staff support for the City's Centennial in 2012 and provided continual support to the City Manager. Mrs. Garrett oversaw the La Mesa Community Center complex including the municipal pool, Adult Enrichment Center and recreational classes. Mrs. Garrett has raised over $8 million dollars for the City’s capital projects program since coming to La Mesa. Projects include the award winning PARKS Project, the La Mesa Teen Center and the nationally recognized “ready…set… Live Well” Community Wellness Initiative.
Mrs. Garrett has 29 years experience working in community services and has worked for the City of La Mesa since 2000. Prior to that, Mrs. Garrett was the Executive Director of the Alpine Community Center for 13 years. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and English from Slippery Rock University, Slippery Rock, PA, and a Masters of Public Administration degree from Ashford University, Clinton Iowa.
