1. Who do I call for non-emergency situations?

For non-emergency situations and after hours call 619.667.1400.

2. Can we take our dog to the park?

Dogs are allowed in the parks on a leash no longer than six feet and must be attended to at all times. Effective June 10, 2010, animals are prohibited on any city owned or operated athletic field.

3. What if my sewer backs up?

We are on duty seven days a week, 24 hours a day. If you have a backup, call us at 619.667.1450 (during working hours) or call the Police Department's non-emergency number at 619.667.1400 (after hours). We will dispatch a maintenance crew to your address to find out if the stoppage is in the City’s main or your private line (sewer lateral). If the sewer main is found to be clear, it is the responsibility of the property owner to call a licensed plumber or drain service cleaning to correct the problem. The property owner is responsible for maintaining adequate flow to and through the sewer lateral from the property structure to and into the City’s sewer main. If the stoppage is in the City’s main, we’ll fix it as quickly as possible and keep you informed about what is being done.

5. How can I report a problem on my street?

6. Are Council meetings broadcast on television?

Yes. You can watch City Council cablecasts live on Channel 24 on the second Tuesday of each month at 4:00 pm and on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 6:00 pm.

7. How should I address a bee problem?

In recent weeks, the La Mesa Police Department and the La Mesa Fire Department have received numerous calls of bee and bee hive sightings. The City recommends that residents call a local bee keeper or exterminator to take care of a bee problem on private property.

If there is a bee problem on City property, please call the Public Works Department at 619.667.1450. The La Mesa Police Department and La Mesa Fire Department will only respond to medical emergencies.
