The Fire Prevention Bureau oversees the installation, re-piping, testing, and removal of all above ground and underground tanks in the City of La Mesa. Contractors are required to apply for a permit and submit plans for approval prior to work.
Fire prevention personnel are on-site during above ground or underground tank work to ensure fire and life safety requirements are met. When the owner of a tank determines its use is no longer required, the Fire Department requires the tank to be removed from the site it is located at. Above ground and underground tanks are typically used for the storage of fuels, oils, and fluids.
